Soros joins Transphorm to close $25 million Series D funding round

Fiat, GAC Group to manufacture cars and engines in China

Google pulls the plug on PowerMeter energy monitoring service

Google Inc. has decided to close Google PowerMeter, an electricity-monitoring web service the company said failed to pick up enough users over the last two years. In its official company blog last week, the California-based company said PowerMeter was a “trailblazer”, designed to give household and business access to data about their energy usage over the internet for free. But according to Bill Weihl, Google Green Energy czar, said it “didn’t catch on the way we would have hoped.”

Isuzu unveils commercial trucks that use B-20 biodiesel

The company said all of its diesel engines for model year 2011 onward, including its four N-series trucks and the new Reach commercial van, can be powered by 20 percent biodiesel blends. This makes Isuzu the first Asian manufacturing company to make diesel engines compatible with B-20 biodiesel for the United States market.

U.S. Energy Department finances eight geothermal feasibility studies

The United States Department of Energy awarded .3 million to eight advanced geothermal energy projects all in their feasibility study stages.California projects took more than half of the total allocation, or .605 million. Projects in Connecticut, Louisiana, Texas and Utah were also supported.The financial assistance represents a Phase 1 investment where the chosen projects could conduct feasibility studies for technologies that recover geothermal heat for electricity production.

D.O.E. offers loan guarantee for company that makes 50% cheaper wafers

Siemens enters solar cells market with CPV startup

Billions needed to boost food production, says DuPont committee

KANSAS CITY, Missouri, June 7 (Reuters) – High-tech seeds and innovations in chemicals and farming will not be enough to solve looming food shortages for the world, according to a report issued Tuesday by a committee formed by food and chemicals conglomerate DuPont.
Billions of dollars in private investment, government incentives and charitable work must be funneled into collaborative projects if global food production is to match growing demand, the report urged.
