Britain is embarking on a five-day green trade mission in four United States cities to aid the opening of British green businesses in the U.S. and to point out investment opportunities back in Britain. The mission, running from March 28 to April 1, is the first of its kind launched through the Department of Energy and Climate Change, and kicked off in the heels of the release of the 2011 budget which declared a commitment “to [be] the greenest government ever.”

Washington D.C. came on top of 35 other contenders in a year-long challenge led by the Environmental Protection Agency which picks the city, town, village, county or tribal government with the largest renewable energy purchasing. Washington D.C.’s local government, businesses, institutions and residents are collectively purchasing almost 756 million kilowatt-hours of renewable energy every year.

Siemens A.G.’s financial arm Siemens Financial Services Ltd. teamed up with Britain’s Carbon Trust to provide up to £550 million (5 million) in aid to help British businesses cover for high upfront costs of energy efficiency projects. The partnership will provide firms with financial assistance over the next three years to help them invest in energy efficiency equipment or other low-carbon technologies such as efficient lighting and biomass heating.

The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company (SMG), which I first wrote about on May 20, 2009 at a price of .88, appears poised to breakout to the upside, above , and I obviously still like the business model at this stage.
Scotts will likely record 2011 revenue growth of 5-8%, boosted by increasing demand for consumer lawn and garden products in the U.S. (finally), Canada, and in selected European countries. The company’s lawn service unit will see slightly higher revenue in 2011.
Further, margins should increase about 90 basis points in 2011 to about 36.5%, as commodity/raw material costs stabilize, prices firm, and productivity improvements help the bottom line.

FedEx Corporation opened its first green data center in Colorado Springs, Colorado, a 140,000-square-foot facility expected to be among the most energy efficient data centers in the United States.The facility, which houses FedEx’s computer systems, is adjacent to the FedEx Rocky Mountain Tech Center. FedEx said it has been figuring out ways on how to cope with the huge energy required in running a data center.
